Jean Chan, D.D.S.
I
can truly say I love what I do. As I approach my twelfth
year practicing pediatric dentistry, I feel so fortunate
to have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives
of children. I have had the privilege to treat the young
people of San Diego ever since I joined Dr. Murray in
1999. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from UC Berkeley, I went on to pursue my Doctor of Dental
Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from the University of
California at Los Angeles. Following dental school, I
completed a two-year residency, also at UCLA, where I
received my specialty certificate in pediatric
dentistry.
While at UCLA, I was honored with the American Academy
of Operative Dentistry for excellence in clinical
dentistry and received special recognition from the
Society of Dentistry for Children for outstanding
proficiency in
pediatric
dentistry.
I am proud to serve El Cajon and all of San Diego County
with comprehensive, high quality dentistry in a uniquely
caring and
non-threatening environment. My passion is to care for
others and my goal is to help restore your child’s
health and appearance by providing the highest quality
of dental care with honesty and integrity. I have had
the privilege of treating the young people of this area
for almost ten years. I feel very fortunate to be able
to watch so many of my patients grow up into happy young
adults and to help them achieve healthy grins for life.
In my spare time I love spending time with my husband
Steve, my six-year-old daughter Allison, and
four-year-old
twins Jessica and Jordan. I also enjoy swimming,
kickboxing, and traveling when time permits.

As a pediatric dentist, I am
dedicated to educating children and improving their oral
healthcare. My goal is to perform the highest
quality of dental care in a pleasant, supportive and fun
environment where a child may maintain a positive dental
experience for a lifetime to come.
I was born in the beautiful city of
Miami, Florida where I had the
fortunate experience of being part of a dental family.
I graduated with honors from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Microbiology and Immunology in 1998. Shortly
thereafter, I began instructing children in swimming and
athletics which propelled my interest to make working
with children my lifetime ambition particularly in the
field of dental care. For this reason, I traveled
to Boston Massachusetts to attend Tufts University
School of Dental Medicine. There, I received my
Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2005. While in
attendance, I was awarded a merit scholarship for
academic excellence. In order to continue my
pursuit to work with children; I attended Boston
University Goldman School of Dental Medicine where I
received a certificate in advanced graduate studies in
pediatric dentistry in 2007.
I am a member of the American Academy of Pediatric
Dentistry, the American
Dental Association, the California Dental Association
and the California Society of Pediatric Dentists.
In addition, I am currently a board candidate for the
American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. In my spare time,
I enjoy participating in volunteer service projects that
allow me to give back to my community. I have a
passion for sports as well. In particular, I am an
avid soccer player involved in many co-ed leagues.
I also enjoy volleyball, water sports and traveling as
well as spending time with family and friends.

We are active members of
the following professional organizations:
· American Dental
Association
· California Dental Association
· American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
· California Society of Pediatric Dentistry
· San Diego County Dental Society
We both place strong
emphasis on continuing education and actively pursue
opportunities with a special focus on caries prevention,
growth and development, and the latest techniques in
dentistry. We also enjoy participating in community
events for children and consider it a true honor to have
the opportunity to help improve the oral health of your
children.
Recently, our office was
selected as one of 15 sites in the U.S. to participate
in a pediatric clinical study sponsored by Novalar
Pharmaceuticals, Inc. The study examined an alternative
option to lingering numbness caused by local anesthetics
after a dental procedure. As a principal investigator, I
helped to research the effect and safety of a new local
anesthetic reversal agent that could potentially
accelerate the return of normal sensation after a dental
procedure. I feel very fortunate to have contributed my
time to a clinical study that may have a great and
far-reaching impact on the future of dentistry.
